Wisdom

Twenty-three insights from 2023.

It's been an interesting and different kind of year. Funny that. To compare it with the 44 others I've experienced, I'd say it's been a year marked by subtlety and a quiet, growing awareness of the deep calling on my life. Especially, the importance of living the questions I've been asking for as long as I can remember.

In living out these questions, I've discovered a few new tools, turned to old trusted sources, and continued to cultivate a handful of maxims to strive to live by on the daily.

So far, 2023 has taught me...

  1. We really are just walking each other home.

  2. Giving a healthy 'no' leads to better 'yesses'.

  3. Shortcuts delay personal growth.

  4. We already have the spiritual medicine we need inside, we just have to have the courage to look within.

  5. Addiction is a temporary solution to a spiritual problem.

  6. Simplicity is incredibly difficult to do well.

  7. Trauma isn't just what happened to us, it's also what didn't happen that should have.

  8. The best vintages come after seasons of stress, strain, and drought.

  9. Respect literally means to look again.

  10. Freedom always comes at a cost.

  11. There are people who quote-unquote get you and love you for who you are.

  12. It's possible to be attached to nothing, and connected to everything.

  13. Writing removes the obsession of overthinking.

  14. The Psalms are beautifully brutal.

  15. Sometimes the best answer is to simply wait.

  16. The best marketing one can do is to quietly and consistently do one's best.

  17. People are not problems to be solved, we are souls to be loved.

  18. There's a big difference between being nice and being kind.

  19. The body really does keep the score.

  20. God is doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves.

  21. Wealth is a mindset, as is scarcity.

  22. The easiest gift we can give someone is our full attention.

  23. Curiosity and wonder keep a soul young.

There's heaps more that I could share, but I'll stop here.

I'd encourage you to break out pen and paper or put your fingers to the keyboard in reflection of what this year has taught you.

Here's to living life with grace and humility...
